General Education Development Exam
General Information
Candidates who wish to test at UNM must register in person at our center.
  • Candidates who are 16 or 17 must complete an Underage Permission Form, which requires a parental/guardian signature as well as a signature from a school superintendent or authorized school representative.
  • Candidates can register Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:00 p.m.
You are allowed to take the GED a maximum of three times in a testing year. Scores will become invalid after three years from the date of the first exam session. Our doors open at approximately 7:30am on test days.
Required Indentification
Two forms of identification are required to pre-register and to take the GED.
  • First form:government issued photo identification. Acceptable photo identification includes a current New Mexico driver’s license or New Mexico non driver’s identification, out of state driver’s license, or military identification.
  • Second Form: must verify the following:
    • name
    • signature
Passing Scores
A minimum standard score of 410 on each test and an average standard score of 450 on all 5 tests is required to pass. As of February 18, 2013 ALL GED candidates will need to register with Diploma Sender (www.diplomasender.com) to view test results, to receive your transcript/diploma and to request GED transcripts/verifications for school or employment. We will no longer be able to process transcript requests/verifications.

Current version of GED test to EXPIRE in December of 2013. Examinees that have not passed all of the sections or are incomplete have until the end of November 2013 to complete and pass the GED. Otherwise, your scores will EXPIRE and you will need to start over with the new 2014 GED test. The 2014 GED test will only be offered on the computer and only delivered in official testing centers. GED testing fees will increase to $120 ($24 per test) for the 2014 GED Test.

Fees:

There is a non-refundable $40.00 fee for taking the GED, that must be paid at the time of registration. Testing fees must be paid at the Testing Center. Candidates who cancel, change test dates, arrive late or don’t show up on scheduled test dates will be required to reschedule and pay the testing fee again.
