Testing Information

Can I use a calculator?

You cannot use your own calculator. ALEKS PPL provides you a calculator for the questions when one is allowed.

Can I practice before the first test?

When you first log on to ALEKS PPL, you will need to complete a survey and a tutorial that walks you through how to use the system. After that, you will complete your first test. Try to relax and do your best. You will still have a chance to complete learning modules for practice and have a second chance to complete your proctored test. Remember, there is no passing or failing here - this is just to get an idea of where you should start your math journey at UNM.

How long is the test?

Assessments consist of 25 questions, and take most students 45-75 minutes to complete. Proctored exams are limited to 2 hours 30 minutes. Practice assessments are given more time. We recommend you set aside at least 90 minutes. If you leave or lose internet access, your clock will keep running, but you can log back on and pick up where you left off if you still have time left.

How do I get the password to take my test?

The password for your proctored assessment is available on your NSO Task List or by contacting the Testing and Training Center at testctr@unm.edu

Do I have to come in person to complete my assessment?

ALEKS PPL is available to all students remotely using LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor remote video proctoring. This means that you take the test at home on your own computer at a time that works best for you. Click the link for information about system requirements for the virtual proctoring software.

Students who wish to test in-person can arrange a time to come in with the UNM Testing & Training Center
